Gretsch guitars have always been renowned for their unique tone and style, and while models like the hollow body 6120 and solid Duo Jet electric guitars are arguably the kind of instruments most associated with Gretsch, early production models were almost exclusive arch tops. These pre and post war models have a rarity and collectability of their own, while encompassing the stylistic elements that have become so associated with Gretsch guitars. This 1952 Gretsch Synchromatic is a great example of the 17" wide 6038 model introduced in 1951. Featuring a maple body and neck, this guitar is finished in a nicely faded out sunburst lacquer, and features pearl block inlays and the earlier script Gretsch headstock logo. Earlier models featured cat eye sound holes, while the post 1951 models feature a more traditional 'F' hole design. Other features include a celluloid guard, Gretsch logo trapeze tailpiece and unique 'Synchronised' rosewood bridge design. This guitar is in very good condition for an instrument of its age, and shows play wear, patina and lacquer checking to the front and back of the body. The tuners have been replaced and there has been a repair to the back of the headstock where a tuner line crack had appeared. The guitar has previously had a neck reset and a refret. A pickup has also been added. This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, including heat treatment to straighten the neck, and includes a 3 year warranty.
