Why This Watch Matters The Navitimer is arguably Breitling's most iconic model and is one of the most popular pilot watches. The Full Story The Navitimer came out around 1954; it was developed in collaboration with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). The first Navitimers had black dials and used a Valjoux 72 movement. The following version of the Navitimer had the black dial with a different movement – the Venus 178 – like the present example. This watch also features the desirable “beaded" bezel. The dial on this watch just features the AOPA logo, with no sign of the Breitling moniker. The movement has "WOG” engraved, which is the U.S. import mark for Breitling; it stands for Wakmann Watch Co., which was the U.S. importer for Breitling at the time. The case is strong and appears to have been lightly polished. The case has scratches, with some deeper scratches on the caseback and on the side of the case at nine o’clock. The dial has developed some patina and shows signs of wear. The crystal has scratches and is a bit hazy.
