Why This Watch Matters Here we have a beautiful and honest Tudor Submariner with a killer patina and ghost bezel. The Full Story Tudor introduced the reference 7928 in 1959 and it was the first Tudor Submariner to have crown guards. Initially the 7928 had square crown guards for a short period of time, and then Rolex/Tudor decided to make them more round like the ones on the current example from 1967. The 7928 is one of the last Tudor Submariners to feature the rose logo; in 1969 it was replaced by the shield. The movement on this example has “ROW” engraved, meaning this watch was meant for the U.S. market. The bracelet on this watch is a Rolex “C+I” bracelet stamped “7.71.” The bracelet is slightly later than the watch, however it is a U.S.A. Rolex bracelet, which would make sense on this example given the U.S. import mark on the movement. The lume on the hands and dial has aged very uniquely; it has gotten a bit dark and gives the whole watch a super cool look. The case has scratches and light nicks. The numbers between both sets of lugs have scratches and signs of wear, but are still visible. The back of the lugs show signs of removing the bracelet. The inside case back is stamped “II.67,” indicating it is from the second quarter of 1967. The bezel shows some signs of wear and has faded to a light grey. The lume on the hands and on the dial has darkened. The lume on the seconds hand has darkened almost completely and the lume on the hour hand is a bit lighter. The crown has a couple nicks, but appears to be original. The dial has developed a light patina. The rivet bracelet has some stretch.
