The Full Story This Seamaster "Soccer Timer" from Omega is a great example of purpose-driven watch design. Envisioned and executed to calculate the elapsed time during a 90-minute soccer match accurately, the sub-dial at three o'clock is split into two colored halves, in order to indicate the time remaining in each 45-minute half at a glance. Function aside, the colors on the dial make this watch undeniably appealing. The tonneau-shaped case and bright orange chronograph seconds hand ushers in some much-loved funky design traits that became popular in the 1970s. The movement is Omega's caliber 861, which is the same movement fitted in the Speedmaster ref. 145.022, that was released around same era this Soccer Timer was produced. According to Omega's registry, this watch was produced on August 19, 1969, and was delivered to the U.S. Sixth Fleet and U.S. Military Sea Transportation Service in Europe. The case is strong with some light scratches and some deeper ones on the caseback. The dial is very well-preserved, with vibrant colors without any very noticeable blemishes, which is a nice welcome with its light, cream-colored dial. The lume plots on the dial and hands are close to matching in color and have developed patina. The outer tachymeter scale has a beautiful soft black, dark grey tone. It comes on an Omega steel bracelet with light stretch between the links. The case, dial, movement, crown, and crystal are all signed. This is overall a stunning example of the Seamaster "Soccer Timer" – one of the best we've ever come across.
