Why This Watch Matters This is an excellent example of a Hamilton Super Compressor 600. It even has the original JB Champion bracelet. The Full Story The Super Compressor case profile is immediately recognizable by its dual-crown design. This iconic dive watch case was built by Ervin Piquerez S.A. (aka EPSA). EPSA produced this style of case for companies like Enicar, Longines, and many others. EPSA specialized in waterproof cases, and the ingenious patented design of the Super Compressor case relied on outside water pressure to increase the case's total water resistance. This means that, as the watch goes deeper under water, the water resistance increases to match the depth. While this was a serious dive watch for the time, it still has a lot of character today, with a rotating inner bezel, wide-set hour markers, and – of course – the twin crown set-up. This example has a silvered bezel with a dark grey internal rotating bezel, controlled by the two o'clock crown, which provides the dial with nice contrast. The lume on the hands and on the dial has turned to a nice even yellow color, giving the watch a striking appearance. Another nice detail is the lack of text on the dial. It simply has the Hamilton "H" logo, with "Hamilton" and "Automatic" written underneath it. It's simple and straightforward, and it's quite refreshing to find an unpretentious dial like this. The case is strong with scratches; it has some light nicks around the edge of the bezel. The caseback writing is all visible and intact. The dial and hands are in great condition. The hands have developed light patina. The lume on the hands, on the dial, and on the internal rotating bezel are all matching in color. The bracelet is in good condition and has some stretch. The bracelet has two signatures, "JB Champion" on the inside of the clasp and "H" for Hamilton on the outside. It is also stamped "12 71" on the inside of the clasp. The crystal has some scratches.
