The Full Story The Omega Seamaster reference 1760 05 is a rather curious creation from the 1970s. The model falls under the Seamaster line, but also shares design elements used for Speedmaster models – as in the Mark III – and Flightmaster models, with a distinct secondary hour hand and a massive steel case with hooded lugs. In some ways it almost seems more appropriately placed in the Speedmaster line; the shimmery blue dial brings the watch back to a more oceanic theme, though, as seen in another interesting Seamaster model referred to as the “Big Blue” reference 176.004. The Omega caliber 1040, with its copper-colored finish, was the manufacturer’s first automatic chronograph movement, and was also used in other iconic Omega models such as Speedmasters from the same era. The case shows some scratches with some softened edges. While the signature radial finish on the case is still there, it is possible that the surface has been lightly buffed. The logo on the back is still clearly legible. The dial is a beautiful satin blue with a sunburst finish. There is slight wear around the edges of the subsidiary dial. The lume plots are nice and creamy in color, with some wear on a few of them. The handset is consistent with other examples of the same reference. The movement rotor is a later replacement. This unusual '70s Seamaster has great presence on the wrist thanks to its size and coloring. Show more
