Why This Watch Matters This Daytona 6263 is a fantastic example. The black patinated dial, black bezel, white subsidiary dials, and screw-down pushers are exactly why we love the 6263. The Full Story If you’re into vintage Rolex, you probably already know that the 6263 is the ultimate grail watch for some and pretty much the ultimate chronograph for many. Daytonas come in a variety of references and dial combinations, with different types of chronograph pushers and bezels. The combinations are almost endless! However this 6263 might be a crowd favorite. With its sumptuous black dial, bright white sub-dials, second generation screw-down pushers, full lume plots (with the exception of one), and acrylic black bezel insert, this watch is a stunner. Not to mention the example here has a Sigma dial, indicated at 6 o'clock, meaning that the indexes and hands are made of lustrous white gold. But the best thing about this watch, in our humble opinion, is the deep black dial without a big red “Daytona” written above the bottom sub dial. The case exhibits signs of light polishing but remains in good shape with some light scratches throughout. The dial is striking, with clean, contrasting sub-registers on the rich black dial, and the latter perfectly complementing the black bezel, itself exhibiting a couple of scratches. The period-correct riveted Oyster bracelet was originally manufactured in the U.S. and ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist for the 37 mm case. Another thing to note is the light scratches on the plexiglass crystal. Again, this Daytona is an example of what we love about vintage watches; this is an honest example that shows how amazing these chronographs look in the flesh.
