While today we all recognize Collings for their innovative influence on the industry and unparalleled attention to detail, in 1995 Collings was still a young brand with a lot to prove. In those days, Collings wanted to build a modified version of their standard dreadnought that featured options commonly requested by flatpicking specialists. The result was the Collings Winfield—a large-soundhole dreadnought available with either Mahogany or Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Named after the well-loved Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, the CW is a bluegrass powerhouse. Its stiff Adirondack Spruce top is supported by a top bracing pattern based on the earliest 14-fret dreadnoughts. Everything about this model is designed to provide plenty of headroom and projection for aggressive playing, but not at the expense of good tone. This 1995 Collings CW Mh A is an absolute cannon of a dreadnought—a true banjo killer ready to deliver in any string ensemble. Make no mistake, this is a player's guitar, and as we all know, the good ones get played! Because of that, this CW shows some wear and tear from the last 25 years, and at one time it had a pickup installed. It's pickup has been professionally removed, and it's current setup is ideal for flatpicking. It has has had a strap button installed on the heel, but it is otherwise free of repairs/issues.
