The Central Fire Station was built in 1924 in the center of the block bounded by Congress, Pearl, Federal and Market Streets. It replaced the old Central Station, which was destroy ed during the Great Fire on July 4, 1866, and was Portland's first Firehouse built without accommodations for horses.
