The Taylor 614ce has helped define what many players know as that classic Maple sound. The model has changed and shifted in different directions over the years, but it remains a mainstay of the Taylor line. Throughout its history, the 614ce has always featured a Grand Auditorium body with cutaway, and only Maple will do for the back and sides! This Taylor 614ce dates to 2003, and while many examples from this era have a three-piece back, this one has a beautifully book-matched two-piece Maple back. Even though it's now a 19-year-old guitar, this 614ce is very clean cosmetically. It's hard to imagine there are many examples this age that are in the same practically unplayed condition. No dings, scuffs, or scratches worth mentioning—just a well-preserved Taylor with great tone to boot! The sound this 614ce produces is exactly what you expect. It's that classic transparent Maple sound with a pronounced mid-range and incredible clarity and definition across the register. Unlike the new models with V-Class bracing, Taylor was still using more traditional X-bracing in 2003, and that gives this guitar a more familiar sound and feel in the response. Every note has a beautiful bell-like quality, and there is plenty of bass response and high-end shimmer to round out the sound. This 2003 Taylor 614ce has no history of repairs, modifications, or issues. Fret wear is absolutely minimal, and it doesn't appear to have been played very much over the last 19 years. The neck is straight, and the current setup is low and inviting with plenty of saddle left for future adjustment. It includes its original hardshell case.
