Since 1987, the Ibanez Soundgear (SR) series has offered high-quality, feature-rich basses at reasonable prices. The Soungear line borrows its body shape from the earlier Roadstar series, but the SR body is smoother and thinner with rounded off edges and sleek lines. It provides a comfortable, lightweight feel—a package that is playable but also durable. With professional-grade electronics and versatile features on board, Soundgear basses offer a lot of tone and value at more accessible prices. Simply put, a good Soundgear is a lot of low end for the money. The SR500 is part of the mid-level "SR Standard" line of the Soundgear Series. Its sleek SR body is mahogany, and its five-piece, bolt-on neck is constructed from Jotoba and Bubginga. Despite going all the way up to 24 frets, the SR500 feels nicely balanced. Its neck profile is fast and smooth, and with a fully-adjustable four-saddle bridge, the SR500 accommodates a wide variety of playing styles. For electronics, the SR500 is outfitted with two active Bartolini MK-1 pickups. Its flexible controls give you a volume control for each pickup, so you can dial in the right balance. From there, a three-band EQ allows you to boost/cut and shape the sound to your liking. The result is a bass covers a lot of territory, but it still remains straightforward and easy to adjust on the fly. This 2007 Ibanez SR500 shows some signs of play and use, but it's in nice shape all around with no history of repairs, damages, or issues. There is some buckle rash on the back around the cutaway and neck joint, and there are a few minor scuffs on the top (see photos). Fortunately, it is free of anything too severe—just some good honest play wear. It is set up low and fast, and it includes a molded plastic Roadrunner case. The case is also a bit worn, but protects the bass like it should.
