The story of Opus One begins in 1970 in a Hawaiian hotel bar when Baron Philippe de Rothschild (of Château Mouton Rothschild) and legendary winemaker Robert Mondavi met for the ver y first time. Setting out to marry the best of the old world to the new, Opus One was born in 1978.Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant grape here, with Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a sliver of Malbec doing more than making up numbers. This richly layered wine boasts a juicy but well-balanced palate that serves up intense aromas of dark berries and cassis. Smooth tannins and fresh acidity make for a persistent, pleasing finish.
