The 2015 Patrick Block 5 Aged Riesling is a mature, cool-climate Riesling from Coonawarra, released after extended bottle ageing to showcase the variety’s exceptional capacity for evolution and complexity. Produced by Patrick of Coonawarra, this wine highlights how time transforms fresh, aromatic Riesling into a layered, textural, and savoury expression. Fresh and fruit-driven in its youth, the wine has been carefully cellared for several years prior to release, allowing classic aged Riesling characters to emerge. The nose is intense and expressive, revealing aromas of citrus zest, preserved lemon, lanolin, and distinctive toasty notes, all lifted by underlying freshness. The palate is delicately layered and refined, showing flavours of lime blossom, citrus oil, and subtle savoury nuance. A beautifully rounded mouthfeel carries through the mid-palate, supported by vibrant natural acidity that drives the wine to a long, crisp, and refreshing finish. The balance between maturity and vitality defines the appeal of this release. Fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness to retain natural acidity and aromatic clarity, then bottled and matured under ideal conditions to encourage slow, graceful development. The result is a Riesling of depth, elegance, and food-friendly versatility, offering immediate enjoyment with the capacity for further short- to medium-term ageing. Extremely aromatic and complex, with hallmark toasty nuances, this is a compelling example of aged Australian Riesling at its best.
