Chiara Condello is a young winemaker from Predappio in Romagna, Italy, who launched her first vintage in 2015. This 100% Sangiovese is sourced from 40-year-old vines planted across three estate parcels at 450 to 1,050 feet above sea level. The vineyards benefit from distinctive regional soils called spungone, a chalky calcareous sandstone from the Pliocene period abundant in marine fossils, along with red clay and limestone. Hand-picked grapes are destemmed and fermented on native yeast using a combination of stainless steel tanks, open-top wooden fermentation tanks, and tonneaux, then aged in 3.5 hl Slavonian oak botti. The resulting wine showcases the purity and energy characteristic of Sangiovese from Romagna, with the unique spungone soils contributing saline minerality.
