How it tastesStrawberry, plum and cherry with rose petal sitting above them. Full and complex on the palate, finesse and structure held in balance, with a balsamic note on a long, harmonious finish. Nebbiolo 100%.The producerThe Vietti family has made wine from the heart of the Langhe since the 1800s, when Carlo Vietti established the winery in the medieval village of Castiglione Falletto; in 1961 the estate produced one of the very first single-vineyard Barolo crus, Rocche di Castiglione, and in 2016 the Krause family took ownership. The fruit comes from a one-hectare plot in the historic Cerequio vineyard in the commune of Barolo, at around 320 metres with a southern exposure, the vines averaging 36 years and planted at 4,600 per hectare in limestone and clay-rich soils with elements of Marne di Sant'Agata, cultivated sustainably and hand-harvested in October. Skin-contact fermentation lasted around four weeks in steel, including pre- and post-ferment maceration with the traditional submerged-cap method; malolactic conversion took place in oak and the wine matured for 32 months in Slavonian and French oak casks before being bottled without filtration.Food and drinkingServe at 16 to 18°C and decant two hours ahead. Braised beef in Barolo, roast hare, truffled tajarin and aged Castelmagno all suit it. Approachable now with air, and at its best over the next ten to twenty years.
