20 years. Hand-cut crystal decanter. Double Eagle Very Rare — Buffalo Trace's most prestigious annually released bourbon, the apex of the Eagle Rare family, and one of the most elaborately presented American whiskeys produced. Eagle Rare 10 Year is one of Buffalo Trace's most recognized expressions. Eagle Rare 17 Year BTAC is the same family at nearly two decades of maturation. Double Eagle Very Rare takes the concept further: 20 years of aging from Buffalo Trace's finest selected barrels, presented in a hand-cut crystal decanter housed in a custom display case. It is the most complete expression of what extended Eagle Rare maturation can achieve. The 2021 release continues Buffalo Trace's annual Double Eagle program — a production run of extremely limited bottles, each individually numbered. The 20-year maturation period produces a profile dramatically different from the 10-year expression: where Eagle Rare 10 Year is bright with fruit and citrus, the Double Eagle has spent two full decades cycling through Kentucky's temperature extremes, extracting extraordinary color, dried fruit, leather, and deep oak complexity that the shorter-aged expressions cannot approach. Tasting Notes Appearance: Very deep amber with the extraordinary color concentration of 20-year Eagle Rare maturation, displayed beautifully in the hand-cut crystal. Nose: Complex and evolved — dried fruit, leather, aged oak, and the deep caramel of 20 years in Buffalo Trace's finest barrels. Palate: Rich, full, and elegant — the Eagle Rare lineage at its most mature. Dried fruit, vanilla, warm spice, and an oak integration that only two decades in Kentucky produces. Finish: Extraordinarily long — the 20-year maturation producing a finish that evolves through multiple stages.
