This is a series of small helmets inspired by the motifs of Sengoku Busho (samurai lords from Japan’s Age of Provincial Wars, 15th–17th centuries).【Who is Shimazu Yoshihisa?】 Naoe Kanetsugu (1560 – 1619) was a famous Japanese samurai and military commander of the late Sengoku (Warring States) period into the early Edo period. He served as chief retainer (karō) to Uesugi Kagekatsu, the head of the powerful Uesugi clan, and was known for his loyalty, strategic skill, and cultured demeanor. Kanetsugu played important roles in political negotiations and military campaigns, particularly during the turbulent years around the Battle of Sekigahara (1600). 【About the symbol】Kanetsugu is also remembered for his distinctive helmet crest featuring the character "愛" (ai, meaning “love”), which reflected his Neo-Confucian ideals of benevolence and moral governance rather than romantic love.
