Carboxypeptidase B (also known as peptidyl-L-lysine (L-lysine) hydrolase, arginase carboxypeptidase, EC 3.4.17.2) specifically hydrolyzes C-terminal basic amino acids of proteins, including lysine (Lys, K), arginine (Arg, R), and histidine (His, H). The Carboxypeptidase B Activity Assay Kit achieves detection through the following mechanism: after enzymatic cleavage of the substrate Hippuryl-L-Arg (Cat#20819ES) containing a specific recognition site, the product produces a characteristic absorbance at 254 nm wavelength; within a certain concentration range, the rate of change in absorbance at 254 nm is positively correlated with enzyme activity, allowing direct quantification of carboxypeptidase B catalytic activity.
