Yamanaka lacquerware is made in Yamanaka hot springs area of Kaga City in Ishikawa Prefecture. Its history began in the 16th century and has developed by inviting skillful craftsmen from Kyoto or other production areas in Japan since the late Edo period, the 19th century. The major feature is what it expresses a texture of wood by making the best use of its grain pattern and that it has both beauty and functionality. A bright Red lacquered bowl. It is made by the technique that is hollowed out a Sen wood with the wood turning. The coating is finished by the technique called “Suri-Urushi”, which repeats many times by applying the lacquer and wiping off it with a cloth. Or it is called "Fuki-Urushi". It brings out the beauty of the wood grain as well as gives strength to the bowl. The horizontal steps on the side of bowl are called “Hirasuji”, which also functions as non-slip when carrying. It goes well with sweets, salad, or with other various dishes. Lightness and keep warm retention are also the feature of wooden lacquerware. It has warmth peculiar to wood, which gives you a relaxed feeling. It is handmade one by one.
