Malus Monty's Surprise was developed from a chance discovery by Mark Christensen of a mature apple tree growing in a remote area of New Zealand’s central North Island. The original tree produced exceptionally large, crisp, disease-resistant apples with outstanding flavour, forming the foundation of this versatile and rewarding variety. The fruit is extra-large with a crisp texture and delicious flavour, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating as well as cooking. Best suited to cooler climates, Monty's Surprise produces a generous harvest from March to April. Its manageable habit also makes it ideal for pots, tubs, courtyards, decks, and balconies, bringing both ornamental appeal and homegrown fruit to compact spaces. Soil: Well-drained, well-worked soil.
