A vigorous, upright tree with an open canopy, Chandler begins producing meaningful crops in around 2–3 years, with heavy harvests ripening mid to late season. Chandler Walnut is the world’s leading walnut variety, prized for its consistently high yields and premium-quality nuts. Late to leaf and bloom, it helps avoid frost damage and produces large, well-sealed walnuts with extra-light, excellent kernels. Nuts are medium to large, smooth, oval-shaped, and crack cleanly in half, delivering one of the highest kernel yields of any variety. Partly self-fertile, but planting more than one tree will improve pollination and boost yields. Soil: Well-drained soil. Mulch well and keep watered through summer to support strong nut development.
