Tohoku Crochet Tohoku Crochet is based in Tono City, Iwate Prefecture, which is rich in nature. Many women from Miyako, Ofunato, Rikuzentakata, Tono, and other areas specialize in knitting and handcrafts. It all started right after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. When they almost lost the strength to survive, what started as a volunteer knitting workshop eventually became a source of hope for them, and they all grew to become professional knitters.
