Hand printed on a Washi paper Samurai Nakamura Kansuke Masatoki from Stories of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Samurai Nakamura Kansuke Masatoki is one of the famous characters d epicted in the works of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Kansuke was a real historical figure who lived during the Edo period and was particularly known for his appearances in Jōruri and Kabuki performances. Kansuke is often portrayed with his long hair tied up, wearing samurai armor, and depicted in a bold posture that exudes strength and dignity. Kuniyoshi's portrayal of Nakamura Kansuke represents the spirit of the samurai, courage, and loyalty. "Stories of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Samurai" is a series of ukiyo-e prints that was published in 1847.
