The hinge is sold as a set and is made up of an Upper and Lower hinge. The straps wrap around the gate and are held in place with carriage bolts. Built to fit a 3" thick gate. Both hinges rest on a 3/4" diameter pintle that is 2-1/2" tall. The upper pintle bolts through the gate post. Fits a gate post up to 5-1/2" thick. The lower pintle is secured by a spike which is held in place by friction and gravity. A fieldgate hinge is designed to support larger, often heavier gates that are commonly found in agricultural settings. Its design typically allows for the gate to swing in a wide arc and provides the necessary strength to support the weight of large wooden or metal gates found in fields, hence the name Fieldgate Hinge.
