On offer is a pair [2] of original manuscript cook books filled with English recipes. The authors and compilers of these eclectic handwritten books are unidentified but coming from the same estate we offer them together. Likely late 1880s to early 1890s for the 22 page earlier book and we find one recipe dated 1906 for the 95+ page second book. The first has recipes ranging from Parmezan Nuggets, Spanish Cream, Swiss Roll, Victorian Sandwiches, Scones, Queen Of Puddings, Trifle, Cheese Cake, Edith's Pudding, Wiltshire Pies; mostly pudding recipes. The second book is more of a collection of recipes with different names accorded to the recipes such as: Mary Bourton, Miss Brooker, Mrs Kendall, Mrs Carling, The Owens and more or geographically as we noted a few recipes labeled Frankfurt a/m [Am Main] and includes a superbly diverse group: how to Pickle a Tongue, Curing bacon, Potato Cheesecakes, Orange Brandy, German Puffs, Strengthening Jelly, Polka Pudding, Soda Cake, Devonshire Junket, Rabbit Soup, Friars Omlet, Wafer Pudding, Calf's Head in Shape, To Preserve Jargonel Pears, Crystal Palace Pudding, Indian Fritter, and many, many more. Also included are four single sheets of loose paper with a recipe on each. The older book is in rough shape but the other is in a very nice ribbed leather cover that would have been pricey when originally purchased.
