United States Army 242nd Engineer Battalion Unit Crest (Devoir) Criteria: These distinctive unit insignia (DUI) are worn by the 242nd Engineer Battalion. Their motto is Devoir whic h translates to Duty. The Corps of Engineers is represented by the scarlet and white coloring. This DUI was originally approved for the 242nd Coast Artillery in 1928, after being redesignated a number of times it was redesignated for the 242nd Engineer Battalion in 1970.
