The platform runs on Benchmade's patented AXIS Lock, an ambidextrous spring-loaded crossbar that engages both handle liners. It opens with a flick of the thumb stud and closes one-handed without putting your fingers in the path of the blade. The CPM-S30V blade steel is Crucible's powder-metallurgy stainless, holding an edge longer than the older 154CM that ran in earlier production. The Noryl GTX handle is reinforced with stainless steel liners, giving you a knife that weighs around 4 ounces but feels solid enough to pry with. The full-size Griptilian carries a 3.45-inch blade on a handle that suits medium to large hands. The Mini Griptilian scales the same platform down to a 2.91-inch blade for tighter pocket carry. Blade shapes include drop point for general utility (551 / 556), sheepsfoot for clean slicing without a piercing tip (550 / 555), and tanto for piercing tougher materials (553 / 557).
