The Successor is a slip-joint — no locking mechanism, just a spring holding the blade open under tension, like a traditional pocket knife. That is a deliberate design choice, not a cost saving. Slip-joints are legal to carry in places where locking knives are not, including much of the UK and a number of US municipalities. If you travel, or if you want a knife that reads as a gentleman's pocket knife rather than a tactical tool, this is the one. Underneath the traditional format it is thoroughly modern: M390 stainless at 58-61 HRC with Benchmade's SelectEdge 14-degree grind, and Ash Gray and Crater Blue anodized aluminum scales. 2.28 ounces on a 2.56" blade. It ships with a black leather slip sheath. One honest note: a slip-joint will close on your fingers if you put serious back-pressure on the spine. That is inherent to the design. Cut with it, do not pry with it.
