and works as Head of Sustainability for CIBSE, where she leads the work on climate action including the Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, policy work, and collaboration with other institutions for joint climate action. Julie also works as independent sustainability consultant, with current projects including building performance evaluation, and overheating in existing homes and retrofits. Scott Rushford, Max Fordham, BEng Principal Engineer Scott has worked on some of the most ground-breaking and heralded buildings over the course of his 20 years at Max Fordham. These include Heelis, The National trust HQ and Keynsham the first office building to target a DEC A rating. He led the Library projects at St John's and Magdalen Colleges in Oxford. Over his career Scott has been instrumental in developing innovative ideas on energy conservation that have been successfully implemented in several projects to significantly reduce the costs of operating the completed buildings. Having joined the Max Fordham London office in 2002, Scott moved to the Bristol office in 2016 where he currently leads an engineering team. Michael Chater, Hampshire County Council Michael Chater is a Principal Architect at Hampshire County Council with over 25 years of job running experience in the Education and Social Housing sectors. He is a passionate advocate for improving building performance and has been actively involved in the field for the last decade. Michael is a dedicated member of the BSRIA national Soft Landings user group and executive, contributing significantly to the advancement of the Soft Landings Framework. In 2020, Michael collaborated with the RIBA to develop PLAN for USE, an interpretation of the Soft Landings Framework, and authored the national guidance document. This document aims to address the performance gap, serving as a crucial step towards delivering low carbon buildings. Among his current projects is a substantial new build and refurbishment SEMH school project for Reading Borough Council, which has been shortlisted for the SPACES Civic Building of the Year. Additionally, Michael is working on a net zero pilot project, exploring the potential of refurbishing 1970s system-built schools to achieve net zero energy performance. Marion Baeli, 10 Design Marion is an award-winning architect and author at 10 Design, specialising in low-energy design and retrofit. She has extensive experience in delivering complex, large-scale projects across the housing spectrum, from luxury to affordable housing, as well as significant office developments. Her expertise lies in re-imagining and retrofitting existing buildings for new purposes, with a strong focus on building fabric, energy use, and net-zero carbon design. Marion authored "Residential Retrofits: 20 Case Studies," a book praised as essential for professionals in the field. She frequently speaks at industry events and universities, inspiring future leaders in architecture. Marion serves on the NLA Net Zero Expert Panel and the board of the Passivhaus Trust, and she judges architecture awards for AJ and Architecture Today.
