Inclusive design that places people at the heart of the design process is a key competence for practice today. It is equally relevant for retrofit and for new build, particularly as majority of the property stock already exists, the diverse and aging profile of the population and equality legislation, also the building regulations. The module is delivered in for four distinct sections. The initial two modules cover strategy, principles and process for inclusive retrofitting and future-proofing. The final two modules review diverse users, their needs and balancing differing requirements and constraints.Learning outcomes:• Understand how inclusivity is linked to sustainability • Knowledge of the principles of inclusive design and the difference between retrofitting and futureproofing • Knowledge of how to develop a projects inclusion strategy linked to the RIBA plan of work, including planning for engagement • Build an awareness of the need to audit buildings but have an understanding of known and future diverse users. • Gain an overview of the physical, social (as multigenerational) and cultural diversity of users • Learn to manage design and cost conflicts in order to achieve regulatory compliance • Gain an awareness of useful good practice guidance and resource.
