Why This Watch Matters A brand of many talents and forts, Mido sits under the radar yet right under the nose of a keen vintage collector. The Full Story The Mido Multifort Powerwind is mainly known for its automatic movement, the caliber 917 PC. It is right there in the name, power winding its way into our hearts. However, it is important to note that this watch continues to pull on the heartstrings as you delve deeper and deeper. Plus, it looks great and is easy to wear. With any vintage Mido, you are getting a whole lot for your money. In our example, that is evident in every detail. Just look at the applied logo and intricate hour markers on the dial, even without lume this 1950s piece is beyond legible and extremely elegant even in stainless steel. The case is made by one of the most legendary suppliers in the history of wristwatches, François Borgel. The recessed crown is a great feature of the case giving it symmetry. You're not likely to come across these cases at attractive prices; the maker typically worked with Vacheron Constantin, Movado, and Patek Philippe – namely in the ref. 565 Calatrava and ref. 1463 "Tasti Tondi." That all being said, "FB" did some excellent work for Mido as well. Much of it is still under the radar of your typical vintage fan. The case is strong. The FB unique numbers between the six o'clock lugs are crisp, reading "8063," and matching the last four digits of the full case number inside the caseback. There are some scratches on the caseback from opening around the edge. The dial is clean with a light creamy patina. The dial has a few light marks throughout. The hands and hour markers have developed light patina. The dial, crown, case, and movement are all signed by Mido. This watch was photographed on a 175mm/6.9inch wrist.
