In this session, Sara Caples and Everardo Jefferson will discuss their upcoming book Many Voices: Architecture for Social Equity. Drawn out of their frustration with writers continuing to talk about work for social equity as if it were an alternative to good design, the book will explore the question of how designing for social equity can broaden and enrich architectural design. It’s a project full of lessons learned from a career devoted to designing for social equity, including essays, case studies, and interviews with prominent practitioners and academics. Sara Caples, AIA and Everardo Jefferson, AIA are principals and co-founders of the award-winning architecture firm Caples Jefferson Architects. Since founding the firm in 1987, they have focused on creating works that ground nuanced formal design principles in social and cultural context. Both are frequent lecturers at schools, universities, and community and professional organisations - they most recently served as Davenport Visiting Professors of Architectural Design at the Yale School of Architecture.
