Armed with Stinger missiles and the cold-blooded patience of a trained gunner, these Marines deliver death from below. This patch captures the lethal attitude of Marine ground-based air defense. The 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, based at MCAS Cherry Point under Marine Air Control Group 28, provides close-in, low-altitude surface-to-air weapons fires in defense of the MAGTF. 2nd LAAD Marines operate the FIM-92 Stinger missile system and the Avenger weapons system, deploying with Marine Expeditionary Units and ground combat elements worldwide.
