The Iridescent Shark (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) is a large freshwater catfish known for its sleek, silver body and shark-like appearance. Despite the name, it is not a true shark but a fast-swimming river fish native to Southeast Asia. These fish are commonly sold small in aquariums but can grow extremely large. They are active schooling fish that prefer open swimming space and do best in very large aquariums or indoor ponds. Iridescent Sharks are generally peaceful but may eat smaller fish that fit in their mouths. Because of their rapid growth and size, they are best suited for experienced aquarists with large tanks.
