Fara Muneer and Christina McGill will discuss the policy and regulatory context, including Approved Document M, and explain why many projects should aim to go beyond minimum compliance. The session highlights how inclusive design supports dignity, independence and participation, and how technical accuracy and early design decisions can make a lasting difference. The CPD draws on insights and examples from the book Inclusive Housing Design Guide, illustrating real-world design approaches, technical details and lived experiences that help translate accessibility standards into practice. Participants will gain practical knowledge to inform their own work and improve outcomes for residents and communities. She is passionate about the positive impact that accessible homes can have on people’s lives. She has overseen numerous key reports and briefings supporting the campaign to increase the supply of accessible homes. including the influential Accessible Homes Forecast (2019, 2020, 2025) and 2023’s Living Not Existing on the social and economic value of wheelchair-accessible homes. Christina has led the team behind the multi-award-winning #ForAccessibleHomes campaign, government consultations, and parliamentary engagement, and serves as co-chair of the Housing Made for Everyone Coalition, driving change in inclusive housing policy and practice. Fara Muneer Fara is Head of Business Development at the Centre for Accessible Environments, an award-winning consultancy supporting inclusive environments. With over 25 years’ experience in disability and inclusion, she founded the CAE Pathways Academy, helping disabled people pursue careers in access and inclusion. Fara holds national advisory roles, including Chair of Network Rail’s BEAP, Design Council Expert, and Advisory Member for Sport England’s #ThisGirlCan. Her work has earned national recognition, including Innovator of the Year 2025 and Best Career Initiative 2023.
