The 30x36x2 Aerostar fits a nominal 30x36x2 return at an actual 29 7/8" x 35 7/8" x 1 3/4". Two-inch filters at this nominal size show up on larger residential systems and some com mercial air handlers - the 2-inch depth doubles the debris-holding capacity compared to a 1-inch equivalent and runs at noticeably lower pressure drop. MERV 8 covers baseline residential filtration. MERV 11 handles pet households and most common allergen concerns. MERV 13 captures fine particulates including bacteria, virus carriers, and wildfire smoke - the grade for households with respiratory health issues. The deeper pleat depth makes higher MERV grades more practical because face pressure drops as filter depth increases. MERV 13 in a 2-inch filter is meaningfully easier on the blower than MERV 13 in a 1-inch at the same nominal size. Pleated synthetic electrostatic media handles the work, manufactured by Con-Air Industries in Orlando, Florida. The cardboard frame is reinforced for shape retention under blower suction - especially important at this large size, where total suction force across the filter face is substantial.
