How is #4 Made The No.4 Finish is created by mechanically polishing the surface with abrasive belts to form short grain parallel grooves in a linear direction along the surface of the stainless steel. The polishing process of No 4 is done by using abrasive belts with cutting lubricants as the coil of stainless is rolled through the polishing line. Due to the variables such as cutting compounds and abrasive belts not every No 4 finish looks the same from supplier to supplier and from batch to batch, there can be some slight differences which are best avoided by purchasing from the same supplier and if possible ordering all required sheet at the same time.
