Her grandfather was the late Henry Hunt, and her father is hereditary Chief and master carver Tony Hunt. Debbie is very proud of her kwakiutl history and artistry, and she regards her culture as the strength to maintaining and preserving traditional songs and dances. In 1999, Debbie decided to pursue her dream of becoming an artist, she did hand sew button blanket and print. In 2002 she started her journey to be a native jeweller.
