Prior to mercerizing of cotton thread in the 19th century, linen thread, such as this 35/2 Linen Thread, was most commonly used. Used on linen, wool and sometimes for construction on silks and blends, it could be purchased in a variety of weights and qualities, depending on the end purpose. Like all of our 100% European linen threads, this 35/2 Linen thread is wet-spun, line flax which gives it a high level of durability. This weight of thread is most commonly used for general-purpose sewing where strength and durability is needed.
