"When I view this capture of a young grizzly bear, I see sadness and confusion. Both were certainly warranted given the circumstances. "The evening before, this grizzly was fed by some inconsiderate and/or ignorant humans. I don't know if they were ever apprehended and charged; the last time I spoke with a ranger he said no witnesses had yet provided a clear description of the offender's truck. "As a result, this previously well-behaved grizzly began spending time closer and closer to humans. In order to prevent the young grizzly from developing dangerous habits, rangers began hazing it. This consisted of flash bangs and bean bags to the rump. This photograph is after the second hazing I witnessed that day. "Grizzlies of this age (2-3 years old) face many challenges and by no means have an easy path to adulthood. This grizzly was simply trying to find its way after emancipating from its mother, and through no fault of its own, its journey just became more difficult."
