Within each half diamond is a smaller lozenge representing birth. The diamond motifs are enclosed by t-shape squares on each side which represent the male. This Berber Moroccan Azilal rug symbolizes a rite of passage, marking a girl's transition into womanhood to ensure survival through her ability to give birth.
