At its core, Rung Divisions functions as a complex polyrhythmic gate generator capable of producing predictable sequences, pseudo-random patterns, chaotic rhythms, and looping stepped control voltages. Voltage control over pattern length, shift direction, and loop probability allows sequences to continuously evolve or settle into repeating cycles, creating rhythmic behaviours reminiscent of visual stroboscopic effects where patterns appear to slow, reverse, or lock into place. Built entirely from solid-state and discrete logic circuitry, the module remains stable from sub-audio modulation through to 40kHz operation. This makes it equally effective for driving multiple voices with evolving gate patterns, generating stepped control voltages, processing digital logic, or creating aggressive audio-rate textures through self-patching and feedback.
