This kit uses an infrared beam between an emitter and receiver board to sense the level of ice in the ice bucket, signaling the ice maker to produce more ice when the level drops and to stop when the bucket is full. Weighs approximately 0.23 lbs. Common causes of failure include electrical problems, general wear and tear, or damage from power surges or short circuits. Symptoms of a failing ice level control board include the ice maker not producing ice, the ice maker not stopping production when full, irregular or inconsistent ice production, or error codes related to the ice maker control system. It directly replaces W11629974, W10757851, 4389102, 2198585, 2198586, 2220398, 2220402, 2255114, 4388635, 4389102R, W10193666, W10193840, W10290817, W11553040, W11553041, AP7205486, AWP45901, EAP16875489, PD00086112, PS16875489. Quick Answer The Choice 4389102 Refrigerator Ice Level Control Board fixes Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore refrigerators where the ice maker isn't producing ice, won't stop when full, or produces ice inconsistently. Emitter and receiver board kit — both boards need replacing together. Replaces W11629974, W10757851, 4389102, 2198585, 2198586, 2220398, 2220402, 2255114, 4388635, 4389102R, W10193666, W10193840, W10290817, W11553040, W11553041, AP7205486, AWP45901, EAP16875489, PD00086112, PS16875489. Control boards are commonly misdiagnosed — check more commonly defective parts first, and use the LED status light blink pattern to confirm this board is actually at fault before replacing it. What's In The Kit Component Function Emitter Board Sends an infrared beam across the ice bucket opening. Receiver Board Detects whether the beam is blocked by ice, signaling the ice maker to start or stop production. Both boards need to be replaced together — this is a matched emitter/receiver pair, not two independently interchangeable parts. What Is a Choice Part? Choice parts are manufactured by a different supplier than the original appliance manufacturer, offering a dependable, cost-effective alternative to Genuine OEM parts. Unlike our OE parts, which come from the same supplier as the original manufacturer, Choice parts are made by an independent manufacturer to equivalent fit, form, and function specifications. This makes them a smart option when you want a reliable repair at a lower price point than Genuine OEM. Wear work gloves. Before installing this kit, confirm the boards are actually at fault: with the refrigerator still plugged in, check the status light on the control board — it should blink twice, pause, then repeat during normal operation. With the freezer door open, hold down the flapper door on the left side to block the optics beam; the LED should light up and stay on with no blinks. If it continues to blink twice instead, the optics control board has failed. If there's no LED light at all, hold down the freezer light switch — the LED should flash every second while in harvest mode; if it doesn't light up, the board has failed. Once confirmed, unplug the refrigerator, locate the emitter and receiver boards near the ice bucket opening in the freezer door, and disconnect their wiring. Remove the mounting screws or clips securing the old boards and take them out. Install both new boards from this kit in the same positions, reconnect the wiring fully, and secure the mounting hardware. Restore power and monitor ice production over the next day or two to confirm normal operation. Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, work gloves. Frequently Asked Questions My ice maker stopped making ice. Is this the part I need? Possibly, but control boards are commonly misdiagnosed. Before replacing this board, check more commonly defective parts first — such as the water inlet valve, ice maker assembly itself, or the freezer temperature. If you've ruled those out and the other components are working properly, this control board is a reasonable next step. How can I confirm this board has actually failed before replacing it? Check the LED status light's blink pattern. During normal operation it should blink twice, pause, then repeat. With the freezer door open, hold down the flapper door on the left side to block the beam — the light should turn solid with no blinking. If it keeps blinking twice instead, or doesn't light up at all when it should be in harvest mode (checked by holding the freezer light switch), the board has failed. Do I need to replace just the emitter or receiver, or both? Both. This kit includes a matched emitter and receiver board, and both need to be replaced together as a pair rather than swapping just one side. What does "Choice" mean for this part? Choice parts are manufactured by an independent supplier, different from the appliance's original manufacturer, and built to equivalent fit, form, and function specifications. This gives you a dependable, lower-cost alternative to a Genuine OEM part, distinct from our OE parts, which are sourced from the same supplier as the original manufacturer.
