Field Controls 46486901 is a critical replacement component for 24Vac gas-fired appliances, serving as the direct functional equivalent for the Honeywell Q35RA-1. This 4-inch automatic vent damper, model GVD-4PL, is engineered for energy-efficient HVAC systems using intermittent ignition or standing pilot setups. Constructed from heavy-duty stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance, this assembly minimizes standby heat loss by closing the flue during off-cycles. The motor operates with a 15-second power-open and 15-second power-close cycle, drawing only 3 watts during transition and remaining unpowered at rest to conserve energy. Designed for professional installers, this unit features a keyed wiring harness connector to prevent field-wiring errors and dual safety switches that interlock the burner circuit. These switches ensure the burner only fires when the gas vent damper is in a fully open position, maintaining system safety without bypassing existing limits. It includes a manual hold-open switch to simplify HVAC system diagnostics and troubleshooting tasks. Note that this specific part number is provided without a wiring harness; for retrofit applications, a compatible universal harness must be sourced separately to complete the furnace maintenance or boiler repair. Key Benefits Optimized Efficiency: Dramatically reduces off-cycle heat loss in gas boilers and furnaces by preventing natural draft when the burner is inactive. Heavy-Duty Construction: The stainless steel pipe and damper assembly offer superior durability against flue gas moisture and high-temperature environments. Fail-Safe Design: Integrated dual internal safety switches prevent ignition unless the damper has reached the full 90-degree open position. Diagnostic Mode: A built-in service switch allows the technician to lock the damper in an open state for inspection or maintenance. Broad Compatibility: Seamlessly integrates with 24Vac, 60Hz control circuits in both standard and high-efficiency gas-fired equipment. Common Questions Is the wiring harness included with the 46486901? No, this specific model (GVD-4PL) is sold without the harness. It is intended for direct replacement where the existing harness is intact or for new installations requiring a separate universal wiring kit. How do I verify if the damper is open before the burner fires? The unit utilizes two internal safety switches. The burner circuit will not receive power until the motor completes its 15-second rotation to the open position, ensuring safe venting of flue gases. Can this damper be used with a standing pilot system? Yes, the GVD-4PL is designed to operate with both standing pilot and intermittent ignition systems, provided the appliance uses a 24Vac control circuit.
