Today, these urban centres face an opportunity to evolve sensitively, prioritising heritage, community, and sustainability. This course forms part of the wider Urban Regeneration in a modern metropolis series, which explores regeneration strategies for existing districts, from business to social hubs, focusing on sustainable renovation, adaptive reuse, and the financial and client perspectives that drive success. We’ll examine projects ranging from small-scale interventions to major urban redevelopments, focusing on practical applications of adaptive reuse principles in established urban centres. Discover how these principles can be integrated into the existing fabric of major APAC cities and applied within contemporary design approaches. Learning OutcomesBy the end of this course, you will be able to: Recognise key vernacular motifs and design features across the region, and the benefits of preservation and reuse in the preservation of culture and history. Apply adaptive reuse principles to contemporary design plans and understand how to effectively reimagine historic sites for modern use. Understand how sustainable urban regeneration can be approached on varying scales, from the micro to the macro . Understand how to implement urban regeneration through preservation of space and landscape, such as the Hong Kong Harbourfront. SpeakerStefano Tronci, Associate Principal, Asia Pacific Sustainability Lead, Design Architect He is an Italian architect with nearly 20 years of professional experience specialising in mixed-use developments, master planning, civic architecture, urban design, and interior design.
