[Generation II Bongo] The Generation 2 wood bongos feature traditional rims and feature a sturdy die-cast aluminum backing plate at the bottom to prevent cracks in the bongo shells, which are often played by salsa players dropping the bongos on the floor. The 5/16" diameter tuning lugs, combined with the lower backing plate, create a shape that's easy to play. In recent years, comfort rims have become the norm for LPs, but when playing bongos by holding them between your feet, the traditional rim specification, which means the rim itself does not come into contact with your feet as much, is best, so this model is deliberately designed with a traditional rim. The shell is made of Siamese oak, which pairs well with the traditional rim to produce a tight, clear sound.
