One of the most common questions we get at the yard is which post height to go for, so here is the quick version. As a rule, you want your post to be the height of your fence plus roughly 600mm to go in the ground. So for a standard 6ft (1.8m) panel, a 2.4m 4x4 post gives you the height plus enough underground to hold firm. The same logic works the whole way up our range. If you are running your fence on a slope, or your ground is soft or exposed to a lot of wind, it is worth sizing up. A bit of extra length in the ground makes a real difference to how solid the finished fence feels. Not sure? Standard panels are 1.83m (6ft) wide, so your posts want to sit at roughly 1.83m centres, with a post at each end and one between every panel.
