Plants are shipped in nursery pots and may vary slightly in pot size.* Common Name: Neoregelia Bromeliad Scientific Name: Neoregelia cvs.. -Care Recommendations By The Dude- Best for These Animals: Small-to-medium sized reptiles and amphibians from tropical and sub-tropical ecosystems (and some temperate ecosystems), especially arboreal (tree-dwelling) species. A particular favorite of tropical tree frogs. Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna Soil Depth: Shallow to moderate with proper drainage, though these are typically mounted. Lighting: Most light levels suitable-- higher light will promote brighter coloration. Humidity & Misting: 40%-100% *Higher humidity preferred, but can tolerate low humidity once established. Mature Plant Size & Root System: Neoregelia bromeliad varieties stay low and grow wider with age, sending out shoots with "pups", or offsets, that will eventually grow to full-sized plants, blooming at the center of the plant! These pups can be separated once mature if desired. They have shallow fibrous root systems, mostly used for anchorage rather than water absorption, as this plant mainly uptakes nutrients by being watered into the center of the plant, allowing the water to flow down into the "tanks" between the leaves of the bromeliad. Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: High temperature tolerant, but can be somewhat drought tolerant when established. Best used as a front (low) placement, or mounted (in high humidity environments). Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-toxic if consumed, though these are typically used for ornamental, not edible, purposes.
