The Children of Powerful Men is celtic crime fiction with a twist. It is a tale of unrequited love, police corruption, violent revenge, impenetrable conspiracy and murder. Set in m odern day Cornwall and populated with characters from Cornish folklore & history, Devonian too; living as one might expect, should they belong to the here and now. Thus are the past’s notorious smugglers reimagined as vicious organised crime lords; the mermaid of Zennor is a singer in a girl group; her lover Matthew Trewhell is no longer a choirboy in a remote country church, but a rockstar living in the States; Causley’s poem about the murder of Charlotte Dymond inspires a crime on Fowey Moor; and John Fitz’s cruelty towards his wife Brigit touches the man who loves her. That man is Detective Inspector James Trescothick, perhaps the last untouchable figure in the Force. Cornish through and through, Trescothick can trace his lineage back to the golden age of Lyonesse. It is therefore his responsibility to thwart the smuggling King of Prussia Cove, bring John Fitz to account, and ensure a semblance of justice is restored to the Duchy. Show more
