He began playing the tenor saxophone upon entering high school. A year later, he switched to the alto. He then studied under Eiichiro Arasaki at Koyo Conservatory of Music. After graduating from Koyo Conservatory of Music, he moved to the United States and enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He studied under Fred Lipsius, Dino Govoni, Bill Pierce, and Jim Odgren. He has a wide range of musical styles, from jazz to pop and R&B.
